Grading Scale
97-100=A+ 80-82=B- 67-69=D+
93-96=A 77-79=C 63-66=D
90-92=A- 73-76=C 60-62=D-
87-89=B+ 70-72=C- 59 & Below=F
83-86=B
As you check your student’s grades online, you may notice that it indicates your student is missing assignments, which is not true. In an effort to allow students some choice of activities and to meet individual academic levels, several activities are assigned, but not required, by everyone. When I enter these activities into the computer grade book, they show up for every student, therefore, the computer sees it as a missing assignment. Even though the computer sees it as missing, it does not count against a student’s grade average. The grade average comes from the scores actually entered into the grade book. At this grade level, it is very rare for a student to be missing assignments. We have flexibility in our schedule to have students complete unfinished or missing assignments.
Homework
Homework will be sent home 2-4 nights a week. It is very important that students establish a homework routine (quiet area, good lighting, etc.) very early in their education. This will help as they continue to get more and more homework each year. Homework points will be given for those assignments completed and returned.
Indoor Recess
Each student will bring home a gallon bag to put their own toys and activities in. These toys will be used for Indoor Recess when the weather does not permit us to go outside. The bags will be sent home periodically for students to switch out toys and activities. The bags will be kept safe in our classroom.
Information
Your child will be coming home with information from FBCS or me almost daily. Please remember to check their folders every night for important things coming home. Be sure to follow the FBCS Facebook page for updates and other information.
enJoy
Even with all our new restrictions and changes, we are still going to have fun and ENJOY our 2nd grade year!
Keeping Informed
I update the class website weekly. Any information that you need to know will be sent home on the weekly newsletters or other notes. I try to keep parents as informed as possible on everything that is going on in our classroom and at FBCS.
Library
The library books that your child chooses will be on their reading level. I encourage you to sit down with your child and read these books several times throughout the week. Mrs. Winstead is our school librarian.
Math Facts
Each student will be working at his/her own individual pace throughout the school year to master all addition and subtraction math facts. If some students master addition and subtraction, they will move on to multiplication facts.
Muhs
This will be Mrs. Muhs’ twelfth year at FBCS. She lives in Owensville with her husband, Mike, Korbin (their son), and their dogs, Bella and Mia.
Newsletter
A weekly newsletter will be posted on my website and uploaded to Google Classroom on Fridays giving information about the upcoming week.
Open Communication
I have an open door policy when it comes to communication with parents. If you ever have any questions or concerns for me, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Peers
Students will be encouraged to work with, recognize, and respect their peers throughout the whole school.
Quotes of the Week
Each week, we will discuss a new quote from someone in history or a current celebrity. These quotes will help us understand and apply Growth Mindset to our classroom and lives.
Reading
Our Reading test will be on Fridays. We will generally cover one story a week.
School Wide Expectations
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Community Minded
Spelling
Spelling will be differentiated by ability level. Not all students will have the same list of words or same number of words on their list.

We try very hard to stay on schedule, but sometimes we will have to change according to student needs, programs, etc.
